He managed a farming business in the property which lasted for several generations. In 1470, “Elixhauser” was an entry surname for the farming group. The surname disappeared in 1787 when Theresia Elixhauser married the restaurateur Johann Georg Gmachl.
Ever since, descendants kept the Gmachl name attached to what is now a part of Romantik Hotel’s historical hotel series.
