Alcala la Real: Visiting Dungeons and Castles
The fortified city of Alcala la Real, Spain once underwent the authority of Muslim conquest and was then called “Qal’at” which meant fortified city. Up until this day, the city lives to its name as there are still several watchtowers and castle ruins surrounding the area. When King Alfonso XI got in control of the city, the Spanish word “real” was added to its name which ten would translate into royal fortress city. Alcala la Real is a place you would want to add to your bucket list if you love the medieval era.
Best Time to Visit
You will have plenty of sunshine to explore the city of Alcala la Real between the months of June and September which are the best months to visit. The three-day, lively Etnosur Festival is also held every July and you will get tons of fun with the music performances and food festival stalls it brings. Do note that Alcala la Real ES hotels are pricier as there are a lot of travelers during these times.

Just a few minutes away from the city center is the modern Torrepalma. It is one of the most recommended hotels in Alcala la Real and there is a restaurant on-site serving delectable local Andalusian cuisine. Other excellent options in the same area as the aforementioned hotel are Hotel Hospedería Zacatín and Hostal Rio de Oro. The ruins of Fortaleza de la Mota is one of the most beautiful and historical landmarks in Alcala la Real. It was once a castle that protected the area.
