Almada: Portugal’s Home of The Christ the King
Located at the opposite side of Lisbon at the edge of Tagus Estuary, Almada, Portugal is initially known as an industrial area that has received makeover since the start of 1990s. The Christ the King Statue or the Cristo Rei is slightly smaller than what is in Rio but have that same feeling of redemption whoever sees it. From the statue’s platform, tourists can have a panoramic view of the Tagus Estuary as well as Lisbon’s suspension bridge, 25th of April Bridge. Cacilhas, the neighbor city of Almada that can be reached via ferry boat, also offers interesting attractions. Dom Fernando II e Gloria Ship is the last sailing ship of the Portuguese navy that has been restored to a museum. There are plenty of hotels to stay when in Almada.
