Anacapri: A Coastal Town of Wine and Tradition
Anacapri, Italy, is one of the comunes on Capri Island, in the Metropolitan City of Naples. The comune’s name is actually just the name of island prefixed with “ana,” which translates to “up” and represents the comune’s high elevation. This earned the city the nickname “Capri above.” You can reach Anacapri from the town of Capri and Marina Grande via a bus service. Anacapri’s patron saint is St. Anthony of Padua, whose saint day falls on the 13th of June. Guests can find dozens of hotels and bed and breakfasts available in the city center and the neighboring towns, as well.
Best Time to Visit
August is rather special for Anacapri as the town hosts the annual Settembrata Anacapri, a traditional wine-harvest festival. This ten-day fest is packed with parades, concerts, food, and of course, fine wine. Tourism is relatively slow during this season as well, so expect plenty of available Anacapri, Italy hotels.
What to Do & Area Attractions
One of the most popular attractions on the island that you should not miss is the Blue Grotto, a 60-meter long cavity that gives off a beautiful blue color. You should also check out Chiesa di Santa Sofia, which was constructed way back in 1510 as a replacement for the parish of St. Mary of Constantinople. From the church, get a ride in the famous Monte Solaro Chairlift, which rewards guests with a panoramic view of the coast. The Melia Villa Capri and Hotel Weber Ambassador will also provide guests with a stunning beachfront suite.
