Appiano Sulla Strada del Vino: Fine Wine, Fun Time
Appiano Sulla Strada del Vino or the Appiano on the Wine Route is a commune of Bolzano, which is the capital city of South Tyrol in northern Italy. Appiano is called the “region of castles” because of the mansions built on its unique cultural landscape while its soils are ideal for growing vines and grapes that made it the largest wine-growing area in South Tyrol.
Best Time to Visit
The harvest season in Appiano falls during autumn from September to November. Enjoy the sweet scent of grapes, kaleidoscope of colors, bright lights, and their tradition of Toerggelen, which is the best time to have late night walks at different farmhouses. Winter in Appiano may be quiet but visitors still visit the place to experience skiing.
What to Do & Area Attractions
Visiting Appiano would be incomplete if one misses the Hocheppan Castle, which was the seat of the Counts during the middle ages. Lake Monticolo is recommended to those who love swimming especially during summer to spring with its large public bath. It is also good for ice-skating during winter. The South Tyrolean Wine Road was awarded at the Roma Wine Festival in 2009 as the most beautiful among all wine routes in Italy as it features 16 villages that are rich in grapes, culture, and architecture including Appiano.
There are numerous city hotels to check when visiting Appiano.
