Simon Bolivar International Airport is otherwise known as Maiquetia “Simon Bolivar” International Airport. It is situated in Maiquetia, Vargas about 13 miles from downtown Caracas, Venezuela. Locals prefer to call the airport Maiquetia as it is the primary international airport and the main entry point to Venezuela. It offers flights to and from the Americas, Middle East and Europe. The airport was inaugurated in 1945. In pop culture, the airport was used as a location in the movie Menudo. Currently, it has experienced a decline in flight services and halts in various airlines as effect of Venezuela’s crisis.

Simon Bolivar International Airport offers destinations to and from Havana, Madrid, Paris, Barcelona, Panama City, Lisbon, Istanbul and many others. In 2015, it has served 5 million passengers going to and from Venezuela. The airport has two terminals, domestic and international, and a couple of runways. Its facilities include restaurants and cafes, tourist information desks, medical services, firemen, ambulance, postal services, currency exchange counters, conference rooms, a chapel, library, jewelry shops and a pharmacy. There are two bus terminals operating in the airport with taxi and car rental services. The terminals are connected by a walkway but free shuttle services are also available.

Hotel Villa Playa Grande provides a free shuttle to the airport and is relatively near to famous sites such as the Caracas Children’s Museum, National Gallery of Art, Teresa Carreño Cultural Complex, Los Caobos Park and may others. Marriot Venezuela Hotel Playa Grande offers the same distance and shuttle service. The same goes with Hotel Altomar.
