Cheraw: The Prettiest Town in Dixie
Cheraw, SC got its name from the fact that it was originally inhabited by Cheraw and Pee Dee American Indians. Sitting right by the Pee Dee River, it became a major location for trade and was primarily inhabited by an Anglo-American community. Interestingly, the proposed name for the city was Chatham but the residents never adapted to the name and continued to call it Cheraw.
