Before Cloquet, MN became a city it started as small settlements namely Shaw Town, Johnson Town and Nelson Town. These sawmills were later on called Knife Falls and then was changed to Cloquet. The city is also home to the R.W. Lindholm Service Station. The gas station was designed by the famous architect Frank Lloyd Wright.
