Emerald – A Literal Gem in Australia
Emerald, Queensland may not have actual gems, but it is located near one of the largest sapphire fields in the southern hemisphere. Emerald got its name from the nearby lush green hills that are like emeralds in color, called the Emerald Downs Hill. The town used to be a major sunflower producer also, which explains the giant sunflower Van Gogh painting located in the town’s Morton Park. There are many interesting sights to see in Emerald and a day won’t be enough to enjoy all of it. Travelers will land in Emerald Airport (EMD) to be able to enjoy all the town has to offer.
Best Time to Visit
In order to enjoy all that Emerald has to offer, it’s best to visit during the months of March to April or September to December. During this time, the weather is warm but not too hot and not too cold so visitors can enjoy the sights on foot. Expect a lot more tourists during these months too so it’s best to book hotel rooms in advance to secure a booking.
