Franconia: Experiencing the Alpines
Home to the northern part of the Franconia Notch State Park, Franconia, NH is nestled within the White Mountains and houses just over a thousand residents. The town got its name from the terrain’s similarity to Franconian Switzerland located in the Franconia region in Germany. The city is also the home of Olympic skier Bode Miller, who is known to be the “most successful male American alpine ski racer of all time.” Tourist hotels and accommodations dot the area, along with several trendy shops and restaurants.
Best Time to Visit
The temperatures in Franconia, New Hampshire is normally chilly for about six months before the warm weather settles in. The best time to visit the city is from late May to mid-September when the skies are clearer, and the sun is out. But Franconia is an excellent winter getaway too. Most tourists come to the city in June, so expect crowded Franconia, NH hotels. The tourist population significantly decreases come
November.
What to Do & Area Attractions
While in Franconia, you should definitely check out the Cannon Mountain Aerial Tramway which would bring you to the summit of the mountain. This 70-person tramway takes you to an elevation of 2,000 feet within seven minutes. It also boasts of being North America’s first ever passenger aerial tramway. Enjoy the snow outside as you ski around the Cannon Mountain Ski Area. To complete your Franconian experience, swing by the Frost Place which houses Rober Frost’s memorabilia. You can stay at The Franconia Inn, the Lovetts Inn, and the Sugar Hill Inn, all of which are conveniently located in the best spots of town.
