The first settlement in the area dates back to 5000 BC. The town’s name is believed to be derived from “Liparus,” the name of the chieftain in a local legend. It is home to less than 13,000 residents and about 10,000 tourists from May to September every year. That said, visitors can easily find hotels and accommodations in the downtown area.
Best Time to Visit
The spring season in Lipari promises visitors with moderately high temperatures and slight chances of rain. Although it is the second busiest season for tourism when tourist population is peaking and Lipari, Italy hotels are relatively expensive, it is always worth the visit as the town is in full-blown festive mode, especially when Easter Sunday comes. By this time, colorful decorations and cheery bands parade around town with the day ending with a vibrant firework display.
