An early settlement that goes by the name “Old Woman’s Point and North Point”, Mount Pleasant, MI was home to the old plantation operating the East of the Cooper. Named after a town in New York, mountains are non-existent in the region. Early settlers were bands of the Ojibwa Tribe also known as the Chippewa. European-American settlers begin to purchase and settle in the lands in the region after the Graduation Act of 1854 that gave discount rates to those who wanted to buy land in the region. At present, the region is home to the Central Michigan University Main campuses and the Mild Michigan Community College.
