A public airport in Martha’s Vineyard, Martha’s Vineyard Airport began as an airfield named “Naval Auxiliary Air Facility Martha’s Vineyard” in 1942 in Vineyard Haven, Massachusetts. Primarily, it served as a hub for naval aviators training prior to their deployment. Northeast Airlines, for a time, operated in the airport after it acquired Mayflower Airlines in 1944. In the 1950s, Northeast Airlines was the dominant airline in the airport. In 2001, it was reconstructed with a new terminal building, replacing the original wooden structure.
