Nachikatsuura: A Resilient City
After the Wakayama landslides, the town of Nachikatsuura has lost a lot of locals and residents resulting in abandoned buildings and management. However, this did not stop the town to attract tourists with their small enterprises, nature sites, and historical temples. The town does not meet many foreigners but when they do, they offer hospitality. The city is situated in the Wakayama Prefecture where it is surrounded by mountains and forests, as well as falls and rivers.

Visiting the town can be a year round thing, like how it is for the entire country. But, to really experience a comfortable and pleasant visit in Nachikatsuura, the best time to visit would be during late September to early November. These months include great weather for onsen or hot springs and at the same time for touring the city. This also has lesser crowds, as it is autumn.
What to Do & Area Attractions
The town has a lot of wonders despite its hurdles. The Nachi Waterfalls is one of the best and famous spots in town for its majestic height, being the tallest waterfall with single uninterrupted drop, and its unwavering natural beauty. A must-visit for both locals and tourists is the Yunomine Onsen, which is one of the oldest hot springs that was discovered 1,800 years ago. It is located in the valley of the sacred Kumano Kodo (mountains) with hot springs changing colors throughout the course of a day. The Fudarakusan-ji Temple is also a great temple for its traditional and spiritual essence and is actually a part of the UNESCO World Heritage Sites. For lodging and inns, the Minshuku Koide and Minshuku Wakatake, which are near locations from the temple with great facilities and deals.
