It is considered as the 2nd busiest passenger airport in the country and known under the OPO code. It currently serves as the focus city of easyJet, Transavia France, and Ryanair. It’s also the hub for TAP Air Portugal. As of 2017, the airport managed to serve a total of ten million passengers.

Opened in 1945, the Dr. Francisco de Sa Carneiro Airport’s original name literally translates to “red rocks” before being renamed in 1990 in honor of Francisco de Sa Carneiro, the former prime minister.
