Orte: An Etruscan Town
Orte, Italy is a town in Viterbo first known as “Hurta”. It was first inhabited by Etruscans during the sixth century. When the Romans dominated the area, they named it “Horta”.
Best Time to Visit
The best time to visit Orta is during the months of April through November, for the perfect weather. The busiest months are usually April through June. Tourists are least likely to visit in November. One of the most popular events nearby is San Pellegrino in Fiore in Viterbo, which is held every weekend of the week of May 1. During the event, the streets are full of unusual floral floats. Visitors also get to enjoy tasting typical local products. Another nearby event to look forward to is Caffeine Culture Festival in Viterbo, which is held every end of June until the start of July. It celebrates global culture and ideas. For 10 days, various international and local artists, journalists, musicians, performers, and writers join the celebration of books, entertainment, music, and theater.

One of the must-see attractions in town is Orte Cathedral or Basilica of Santa Maria Assunta, Orte. It is the main Roman Catholic Church in town, dedicated to the Assumption of the Virgin Mary.
