Robert Burns Centre carries a beautiful history in it. Located in an 18th century watermill, the Centre’s story is about Robert Burns’, or Bard, time in town. His final years were spent in Dumfries, Scotland where the Centre dedicated to him is standing on the present day. Many of Bard’s belongings are now on display, like his manuscripts. There is also an audio-visual presentation of Dumfries in the 1790's.
You might also want to check out Dumfries Museum, the biggest museum in Scotland that takes a lot of pride in its collection of items from the prehistoric era. It’s also the home of the oldest and still working Camera Obscura, or pinhole image. The John Paul Jones Cottage Museum in Carsethorn is also worth the trip. It’s the same house where John Paul Jones, founder of U.S. Navy and American Revolutionary War hero, was born. It features audio presentations to make it seem as if you’re traveling back in 1747. Even its exterior exudes antiquity. Sweetheart Abbey shouldn’t be out of the list. Situated in New Abbey, the castle was founded by the Dervorguilla of Galloway as a gift to her late husband. Still looking for a hotel? Check out the Hetland Hall Hotel, a 19th century house within an 18-acre land. It’s a well-kept abode that’s only 12 kilometers away from Dumfries.
