Sarteano, Italy: Holiday on a Hilltop Town
Perched on a hill is the panoramic community of Sarteano located about 62 miles of Florence and 37 miles of Siena. Until recently, it was an undiscovered little town that many outsiders have not heard of. These days, a growing number of visitors come to Sarteano for its many attractions like Etruscan tombs, medieval churches and Renaissance palaces like the giant castle that is the first thing that greets visitors on their way to town.
Best Time to Visit
Sarteano’s ideal travel months are from April to June as well as September and October. These months are considered peak season because of the good weather in the region. Unfortunately, these are also the busiest and most expensive times to travel to Sarteano. If you don’t mind the heat in July and August then plan a visit during these summer months as these times have affordable Sarteano hotel rates. It will also be a delight to witness the Giostra del Saracino di Sarteano in mid-August, a historical re-enactment of the fights between the knights and the Saracen invaders.
