The Vincenzo Florio Airport Trapani–Birgi, or simply known as Trapani Airport, is Sicily’s third busiest airport. Among the five civilian airports in Sicily, Italy this airport is also used as a military facility. It is strategically situated between Trapani and Marsala and serves Trapani, Italy and its nearby towns. The Vincenzo Florio Airport Trapani–Birgi, whose airport code is TPS, was named before Vincenzo Florio Sr., an Italian entrepreneur and politician. In 2015, the airport has handled1,586,992 passengers making it one of Italy’s large air public transport facility.

TPS-Vincenzo Florio Airport Trapani–Birgi was opened in 1960and inaugurated in 1961. Since then, it operated very few flights and became fewer in 1990’s which only one flight was left operating.The change of tide started when it was re-launched by the Province of Trapani and RyanAir use the airport as main hub in its destination to Sicily. This brings new international flights from and to Sicily. Another thing that added the activity of the airport is the tourists’ destinations around the area. If you want to see the number one tourist spot of Trapani, you can easily drive to the Macari and Castelluzzo from the airport.
