Ürümqi Diwopu International Airport-URC Airport
An international airport serving the capital of Xinjian Uygur Autonomous Region is the Ürümqi Diwopu International Airport. The airport is located in Diwopu Township and is 16 kilometers from downtown Ürümqi. The airport is a focus city for Hainan Airlines and the hub for China Southern Airlines. As of 2018, the airport has handled 23,027,788 passengers. This statistic makes URC Airport the 19th busiest in the country of China according to passenger traffic alone.
Best Time to Visit
The international airport was opened to foreign passengers in the year 1973. It is one of two airports in Xinjiang that caters to international flights. All in all, the airport covers 484 hectares of land and has three terminals, with the fourth terminal currently being under construction. Of all the terminals, terminal 3 is the newest and is famous for its “eagle’s wings” rooftop design. It is also exclusively used for international flights mainly by China Southern Airlines. Terminal 2 is used for domestic flights whereas Terminal 1 is used for local and provincial low-cost carriers. Ürümqi Diwopu International Airport is the airport of choice for travelers other than from Ürümqi, namely Ergong and Miquan.
