Willow: A Gorgeous Mountain Destination
The picturesque census-designated place of Willow, Alaska is part of the Matanuska-Susitna Borough. A part of the Anchorage, Alaska Metropolitan Statistical Area, it has an estimated population of just over 2,100 as of the 2010 census. Established in 1897, Willow started when miners discovered gold in Willow Creek. By 1954, it had become the largest gold mining district in Alaska. The city sees the most number of tourists from May to September with the most visitors arriving in July and September. The off season runs from October to April.
