Basco is the capital of Batanes, the northernmost province in the country of the Philippines. It is divided into six barangays, making it the largest municipality in the island. Flights are also offered during the wet season, but many are cancelled due to bad weather. There are a lot of festivals celebrated in Basco, but the main one is the Batanes Day, held every June 26.

Basco has a great coastline. A visit to Chadpidan Beach or the Nakabuang Beach is recommended with its fine white sand and pristine waters. Tourists can simply laze by the beach, grill fish, and enjoy. Also worthy of a visit is the Homoron Blue Lagoon. Only the Spaniards were allowed to bathe in this lagoon in the past, now it is open to anyone. Visit the Fundacion Pacita Lodge, the former house of internationally known artist, Pacita Abad and get to see her works up close and personal. A day isn’t enough to enjoy Basco, so stay the night at many of the hotels including Bernardo’s Hotel. This is a simple hotel with many rooms featuring terraces offering a great view.
