Carrick-on-Shannon: A County Town Near Lovely Lake Views and Wonderful Attractions
Located in the Leitrim County in Ireland, the town of Carrick-on-Shannon, Ireland is the largest town and capital of the county. But while it is the largest town in Leitrim, it is the smallest of all county capital towns. Aside from interesting sights and attractions, tourists travel to Carrick-on-Shannon to take part in the annual celebration, the Carrick Carnival. The closest airport to the town is the Ireland West Airport (NOC), about 30 miles away.
Best Time to Visit
If visiting to participate in the 10-day Carrick Carnival Festival, then schedule the trip around June. The festival begins on a weekend, but it is best to check the actual dates before booking a Carrick-on-Shannon hotel. The last week of June until August are the most ideal times to explore the vast outdoors. Try to avoid going here on October as this is the rainiest period.

For premium entertainment with family or friends, tourists can visit Carrick-on-Shannon Golf Club for a round or two. Take the opportunity also to visit some of the known landmarks in the area such as the St George's Heritage Centre. Along Lake Shannon’s banks, tourists will find Leitrim Marina Hotel.
