Hazrat Shahjalal International Airport is one of the most promintent international airports in Dhaka, Bangladesh. Situated 17 kilometers from the city center, it sits in the northern part of the capital city. The airport was once used as the base of the Bangladesh Air Force. With a total area of 802 hectares, DAC-Shahjalal Intl started its operation in 1980 and took over the Tejgaon Airport from the top spot of being the most significant airport in the region. It was formerly named Dacca International Airport and Zia International Airport before it took its current name.
Best Time to Visit
There are three major terminals in the airport. Terminal 1 and Terminal 2 are dedicated for international flights and located in the same building. Terminal 3 handles the domestic flights in the airport. A VIP terminal is also featured in the region and is used occasionally for dignitaries and high-position government officials. An additional terminal for international flights is planned for expansion. Hazrat Shahjalal International Airport is the main hub of Biman Bangladesh Airlines as well as Regent Airways and Novoair. Nearby cities to check out within close distance to the airport include Banani, Gulshan and Dhaka.
