Edinburgh Castle is an exciting historical site in Western Europe and located in the heart of Scotland’s capital city, Edinburgh. The scenery is strikingly beautiful, and there are many things to see and discover inside. The first human occupation of Edinburgh Castle was established to be at least during the Iron Age or the 2nd century AD. It has served as a royal residence until the year 1633. By the 17th century, it was primarily used as a military barracks. But what makes Edinburgh Castle an important national heritage is that it played a great role throughout many of the historical conflicts the country has been through.
Edinburgh Castle is such a popular landmark that visitors from nearby cities like Gogar, Humbie, and even Lohja visit the castle when in Scotland’s capital city. When done visiting the castle, there are still so many places to visit in the city and the entire country. The Scottish Sea Bird Center is a great place, especially for nature and bird lovers. Visitors can get up and close with various species of sea birds and mammals. If a trip to the castle is not enough to learn about the country’s history, the Royal Scots Regimental Museum is also a great place to visit and look at the collections on display. Visitors who want to get a taste of what beaches are like in Scotland can visit Tyninghame Beach. It is a sandy beach that’s dog-friendly all year round. A good number of hotels surround the famous Edinburgh Castle. To continue the historical feeling, staying at the Waldorf Astoria Edinburgh – The Caledonian is a wonderful choice. Its signature rose-colored façade helps it to stand out, along with its historical significance. Old Town Chambers is another option, but the name shouldn’t fool visitors as it is a modern accommodation and offers apartments, not just rooms.
