Gonzales: Embracing Local History and Dining Adventures
Popularly known as the “Lexington of Texas”, Gonzales, TX is the battleground of the first skirmish of the 1831 Texas Revolution. The Mexican government granted Green DeWitt’s request to get access to a small cannon that would protect the region against the Indian attacks back in the days. DeWitt is one of the earliest settlers in the region and responsible for the establishment of the community. He gave Gonzales the city’s name in honor of Rafael Gonzales, current governor of Coahuila y Tejas during 1825. With a rich history to boast, Gonzales, Texas is now a destination for its museums, parks and swimming areas.
