Gracias is a town capital of the Lempira Department that was founded in 1536. Gracias, Honduras is geographically surrounded by a mountain of Montana, which is considered as the highest mountain and the largest forest reserve in Honduras. The Chief Lempira Day Festival is holding every 20th of July annually and considered the most important festival for Gracia's indigenous group. This festival commemorated the braveness the Chief Lempira had shown during the Spanish conquering the land in the 15th century. There are homemade floats, fireworks display, people who are costumed to represent the Lencans, and a marching band.
