Grignan: A Pretty Medieval Town with Exceptional History
Grignan, France is a hillside fortified village snugged around a Renaissance chateau located in the heart of Drôme Provençale in the Rhone-Alpes region. Established in the 11th century and was fortified in the 12th century, it is at present a beautiful town bounded by lavender fields and takes pride in its bountiful supply of wine, truffle, honey and olives.
Best Time to Visit
Grignan is a lovely destination during all four seasons but the best times to visit would still be from end of April to end of October. The town is a popular destination for tourists from January to February as well as in July. Although prices for hotels are most expensive during these months many still troop to Grignan to enjoy its many interesting sights. November is an off-peak month in town and those willing to come visiting at this period will enjoy much lower rates in Grignan FR hotels as well as other travel expenses.
What to Do & Area Attractions
The crowning glory of the town is the Chateau de Grignan, a castle which is now a museum showcasing decorative arts & paintings that’s open for tours & visits. Only 5 minutes from the castle is Le Clair de la Plume, an elegant hotel which was once a monastery. Standing among the lavender fields is La vie de château, a charming hotel which is a stone’s throw away from the chateau. Another hotel, the Le Moulin de Valaurie – Hôtel & Restaurant is also adjacent to many attractions in town.
