Gyeongju, South Korea is a quaint city by the coast of North Gyeongsang Province. It has the second biggest land area in the province, next only to Andong. The city was once the capital of Silla, an ancient kingdom in the northern and southern part of the Korean peninsula. During Silla’s prosperous days, Gyeongju became the world’s fourth-biggest city. Today, the town is mostly modernized and houses over 260,000 people. Tourists can find a wide variety of affordable and luxurious hotels and accommodations dotting the area.
Best Time to Visit
The climate in Gyeongju is generally pleasant for most of the year, although it can be pretty cold when winter sets in. Fall is marked as among the best seasons to visit the city not only because of the cheap Gyeongju, South Korea hotels but also because of the annual World Culture Expo held in the town. The Expo features a handful of folk performances and carnivals beside the Bomun Lake. Tourism is typically slow in December, so expect fewer tourists around and cheaper airfare and accommodations.
