Hachioji: Nature’s Beauty in the City
Hachioji is a big city located in the western part of the metropolis of Tokyo. While many tourists fail to see Hachioji, Japan as a top destination, this suburb is full of sights to see and offers many activities from hiking trails to various museums. Hachioji was originally a shukuba or post station (i.e., stopovers or layovers) during Japan’s Edo Period. Public officials mostly used these stations, so it was difficult for establishment owners to earn their keep while providing services. Today, Hachioji is known for its many flowers, the most famous of which, of course, is the cherry blossom. You can get to Hachioji City through the Haneda Airport (HND) or the Narita International Airport (NRT).
Best Time to Visit
Tokyo weather is temperate, making Hachioji a year-round destination. April is unarguably the busiest time of the year as many want to see the cherry blossoms. Tokyo summers in months of June to August, are hot and humid and it does rain from time to time – but don’t let that put a damper on your fun. Months from January to March are ideal for exploring Hachioji, Japan without the crowds. Hotel prices tend to be lower during this period. Some events you can attend while in the city include the Hachioji Ginkgo Festival in November and the Takao Wakaba Festival in months of April to May.
