Honiara International Airport – HIR Honiara
Honiara International Airport is the primary international airport in Solomon Islands. It is located in the province of Guadalcanal and is just 5 miles east of the vibrant capital, Honiara, Solomon Islands. The airport was started by the Japanese forces during the World War II and was formerly known as Henderson Field, named after Marine Major Lofton Henderson. After the war, the airport was shut down but was later reopened to be a civilian airport.

The Honiara International Airport is the national airline for the Solomon Islands run by the Civil Aviation Authority of Solomon Islands (CAASI). It is the airport of choice when visiting the Solomons, which serves passengers and cargos. For the passengers’ convenience, the airport has a Duty-free shop and refreshments area. It has currency exchange counters and ATMs are readily available. Also, the airport has a Wi-Fi free for all passengers inside the building. The peak seasons are usually in June to August with around 400 flights every month. The airport offers direct flights to Australia, Fiji, Papua New Guinea, Vanuatu and the Republic of Kirabati. Australia and Fiji are usual stopover locations selected by tourists from Europe and the United States of America.
