Gwangju International Airport - KWJ
Gwangju International Airport is the airport serving the city of Gwangju, South Korea. Its airport code of KWJ stands for another variation in spelling of its name, Kwangju. With the code KWJ, the airport is used to be a military training facility and was located in the nearby Jangseong County by then. By 1964, the KWJ-Gwangju International Airport was moved to its current location.
Best Time to Visit
There are two terminals in Gwangju International Airport, a two-leveled one for the passengers and one for cargo, and two runways. Despite still having international in its name, flights to and from KWJ are domestic routes now. Back in 1996 and 2005, there were flights available to and from Osaka, Bangkok, and Shanghai. However, these flights have either been withdrawn or transferred to another airport. Korean Air, Jeju Air, Jin Air, and Asiana Airlines now just handle routes to and from Seoul-Gimpo and Jeju. Visit the nearby Chobi, Chedo and Anpo when you land at the Gwangju International Airport.
What to Do & Area Attractions
Near and around the Gwangju International Airport are excellent hotels and accommodations. The Holiday Inn Gwangju is just half a mile away and provides a complimentary American breakfast to all the guests. The Chocolate Hotel and the Hotel France are just 2 miles away from the airport and offer breakfast buffet which the guests would love. Although none of these accommodations provide free/paid airport transfer services, they are all near the subway station which connects to the airport.
Muan International Airport (MWX), which is about 40 minutes away from KWJ, now handles the international flights.
