Serving as the primary airport of Orlando, Florida, the Orlando International Airport is a public international airport operated by the Greater Orlando Aviation Authority. It is regarded as the busiest airfield in the state and the tenth-busiest in the US. The airport was initially named as McCoy Air Force Base, from which its airport code, MCO, was derived. It was also a former US Army Air Forces facility during World War II before it was officially granted international airport status in 1976.
