Miyakejima Airport – MYE Miyakejima, Japan
The Miyakejima Airport is a Class III airport that is located on the island of Miyakejima in the Miyake Sub-prefecture Tokyo, Japan. Miyakejima is part of the Izuarchipelago located approximately 180 kilometers south of Tokyo.The Tokyo Metropolitan Governmentis in charge of operations of this small public airport. Flights going to the airport were suspended after a volcanic eruption in 2000 and have resumed in 2008. The airport uses the three-letter geo-code MYE. Only a little over 22,000 passengers and an aircraft movement of about 2,348 have been recorded using the air facility in 2015.
Best Time to Visit
As an airport belonging to the Class III category, the MYE-Miyakejima Airport handles only scheduled operations of small aircrafts. It has one asphalt concrete runway. The New Central Airservice Corporation flies commuter service from the airport to Chōfu Airport in Tokyo and vice versa. It has three commuter round-trip flights per day. Flight duration is about 50 minutes. Helicopters of Toho Air Service, a Japanese airline based in Tokyo Heliport also arrives in the airport from IzuŌshima. These trips are exclusively for private purposes. Miyake-mura is one of the airport’s surrounding areas.
What to Do & Area Attractions
Although there are no big hotels within the Miyakejima areas, most especially near the airport, there are a few pleasant lodgings situated near the scenic spots of the town. You can book at the Snapper Inn, which is 5.3 kilometers from the town proper. The Hotel & Resort Mashio and the Hotel Shiraiwa are also great options for a stay.
