Pachino: Exploring the City of Wine, Tomatoes, and Beaches
Pachino, Italy, found in the Syracuse province, on the island of Sicily, is a comune whose name came from the Latin terms Bacchus and vinum. Bacchus is a Roman god of wine, while vinum translates to “wine” in Latin. Pachino was officially founded in 1760, and in 1943, the British took over the city while invading Sicily.
Best Time to Visit
August promises visitors to Pachino with a festive city vibe. This is because August is typically the time of year for the city’s Tomato Festival PGI, or locally known as Festa del Pomodoro di Pachino IGP. The event is celebrated in honor of the city’s primary produce, the cherry tomatoes. Tons of tournaments, shows, and tastings are done during the three-day celebration. Thankfully, the summer temperatures can still be felt in August, attracting more visitors to the area during the festivities. That said, it is safe to say that the majority of Pachino, Italy hotels are surely fully booked by the beginning of the month. On the other hand, enjoy a cheaper stay in the city in the fall.
