AkwaIbom Airport – QUO Uyo, Nigeria
Akwa Ibom Airport (QUO) is a major domestic airport about 24 kilometers of Uyoand 16 kilometers from the river port of Oron. It provides aviation services to the capital of AkwaIbom State of Uyo, Nigeria. Construction began in 2006 and it opened in September 2009 while the first scheduled passenger service to Lagos and Abuja took place in December of that year. Further works on the airport began in 2012 and it resulted in the completion of an international terminal, additional taxiways plus maintenance, repair, and overhaul of the facility.

Akwa Ibom International’s terminal is equipped with modern check-in facilities like full body scanners. The airport’s airside area is designed to handle Boeing 747 and it is compliant to servicing a wide range of commercial aircraft. QUO airport boasts of a state-of-the-art facilities like its air traffic control tower, technical building, emergency operating center, aviation fuel farm, aircraft rescue and firefighting facility, and instrument landing system. Further expansions in the near future are already being drafted. It services areas as far as Calabar, the capital of Cross River State.
What to Do & Area Attractions
Since plans to build a 3 to 5 star airport hotel are still on the drafting table, passengers going through QUO airport stay in some of the hotels in Uyo, for the time being. These hotels are about 23 to 35 minutes from the airport: Emrosy Hotels and Suites, and the Cute Villa Hotel. The Ibom Hotel & Golf Resort is also nearby. The hotel has 3 bars onsite, a pool bar, ATM machines and even a hair salon.
The Margaret Ekpo International Airport (CBQ) in the neighboring state of Cross River and serving the Calabar area is 3 hours away.
