Salernes: A Pot of History
Salernes is a town in a valley by the Bresque River in the Provence region of France. The town is claimed to be the oldest area in Western Europe to have produced ceramics or pottery for at least 7,000 years. It is also ideally known for their traditional tile making that is continuously processed according to its traditional methods. Looking at its cultural atmosphere and environment, medieval landmarks and features are still preserved and kept that maximizes the town's historical essence and beauty.
Best Time to Visit
Salernes experiences a series of festivals during the summer, from June to August. The Great Lights of Salernes is a big ceramic festival that invites potters and offers free entertainment throughout the festivity. There are also aperitif concerts celebrated weekly, as well as night markets, in the month of July and August. Salernes hotels are considerably higher than usual during summer.

There are several historical and cultural attractions that are featured in Salernes. Museum Terra Rossa is an old tile factory converted into a museum that displays a collection of ceramic artifacts with some lasting for 400 years. Salernes most important historic monument is the Church of Saint Pierre that was built way back in the 13th century located in the center of the town. Some of its structures are made of iron and also includes historic artifacts and pieces.
