San Miguel de Salinas: A Rural, Mediterranean Village
San Miguel de Salinas is a tourist favorite for its breathtaking panoramic views of salt lakes and terrain, having a 75-meter elevation above sea level. It is located in Costa Blanca, nearby two popular villages, Torrevieja and Orihuela Costa. The village itself is not near beaches or sea fronts; however, it covers a wide view of countryside, farmlands, and salt lakes. The village is just a 30-minute drive from Murcia Airport in San Javier.
Best Time to Visit
The village of San Miguel de Salinas experiences a wonderful Mediterranean climate almost all year round. Summer has comfortable warm weather and winter has a nice cool weather; every day usually experiences sunny days with clear blue skies. San Miguel de Salinas hotel rates are slightly higher during summer with tourists and locals checking in to bask by the beach and by the sea. There are also local fiestas celebrated in the village like the Santa Cecilia Festival, a music festival celebrated in November.
What to Do & Area Attractions
Aside from the nearby beaches and attractions, there are also historical landmarks widely visited and preserved in San Miguel de Salinas. The San Miguel Church was built in the 18th century and has been restored after the 1829 earthquake. It was the only building that survived during the heavy earthquake, affecting also nearby cities. Locals and visitors also enjoy visiting the Las Cuevas, or the cave houses, with a restaurant inside as well.
