Known as a popular tourist center on the Italian Riviera, the city of Sanremo, Italy is a big commune with over 57,000 residents. It lies on the Mediterranean coast of Liguria in the northwestern portion of the country. Sanremo’s name was derived from Sant' Eremo di San Romolo, referring to Romulus of Genoa, a bishop during the times of Saint Syrus. The Sanremo Music Festival, or most locally known as Festival della canzone Italiana di Sanremo, is held every February in the city of Sanremo. Tourism is relatively slow during this season, so most of Sanremo, Italy hotels are at their cheapest. Summer, on the other hand, is the most active season for the city.
