São Lourenço: A Small Village with Big Local Flavor
The town of São Lourenço is in the southern part of the state of Minas Gerais in Southeast Brazil. Although one of the smallest Brazilian municipalities, it has a vibrant tourism industry and it also serves as a regional hub for shopping, medical care, and banking. Less than two hours from town is the Major-Brigadeiro Trompowsky Airport (VAG), which provides aviation services to Varginha and Sao Lourenco.
Best Time to Visit
Good weather awaits visitors to Sao Lourenco between early April and the first week of October which is within the period when the town celebrates its patron saint, Saint Lawrence, with a lively ten-day festival in August. Tourist arrivals surge in July, followed by January and June and those who do not book early for their visit to town on these months will find that it can be quite challenging to get good Sao Lourenco BR accommodations as well as pay more expensive rates.
What to Do & Area Attractions
You should not miss going to the Passa Quatro National Forest because it has so many natural delights whether it’s for hikes or to just enjoy nature. An experience that you will long remember is the trip via the Trem das Aguas Scenic Railway. The train leaves the central station in Sao Lourenco for a 12.4 mile round trip to Soledade de Minas. The farm-style Hotel Fazenda Vale da Mantiqueira is very near the town centre and is one of the fine places to stay. So is the Hotel Metropole which offers comfortable accommodations. Another good choice is the accessibly-located Carmen Palace Hotel, which is very popular among couples.
