The building was initially named the O’Keefe Center when it opened in October 1960. Since then, it has hosted a number of international actors and attractions. In 1996, the name was changed to the Hummingbird Center for the Performing Arts. After that, it was renamed to the Sony Centre for the Performing Arts. Renovations were done in the late 2000s, and the place was reopened in 2010—the original design by Architect Peter Dickinson.
