John Greif II Airport – SPR San Pedro
John Greif II Airport is a public airport that serves the town of San Pedro and the largest island in Belize, Ambergris Caye. As of today, two airlines are operating in the airport and are serving domestic flights. The airport is also a hub for Tropic Air. John Greif II Airport was made by John Greif Sr. Back when Ambergris Caye was just only accessible through a boat is when John Greif Sr. meet his wife, Celi Nunez. They got married and the couple bought a beachfront property that is now the San Pedro Holiday Hotel. Greif Sr. realized that tourists want a faster way to travel to the island. So he bought a Cessna plane and had a landing strip cut into the bush. Decades later, that landing strip is now an airport, the improved John Greif II Airport.
Best Time to Visit
The airport’s lighted asphalt runway has a length of 3,501 feet. It has a medium-sized airport terminal and some cafes food stalls where passengers can grab their snacks and drinks. Some towns and cities that surround the SPR San Pedro like Chetumal, Punta Herrero and Santa Elenaare likely to be visited by tourists because of some historical spots and landmarks.
