Nueva Hesperides International Airport – STY Salto
Nueva Hesperides International Airport with airport code STY is located in Salto, Uruguay. The airport is situated about 3km from the city center. The airport was served by Aviasure and Transporte Aereo Militar Uruguayo. However, there are no scheduled flights today. The government is planning to modernize the facility. There are also plans to resume flights going to Carrasco International Airport to this airport. The field is equipped with a non-directional beacon. Salto is a city located at the banks of Lower Uruguay River. It is the opposite of Concordia which is a famous Argentine city. Aside from the airport, the town can be accessed via railway and bus.
Best Time to Visit
Before the stoppage of flights in and out of the STY airport, there is an accident that happened in 1977. It involves Transporte Aereo Militar Uruguayo that came from Montevideo. The aircraft crashed after hitting several trees in the orange grove before landing at the airport. 5 passengers including the crew died. Federacion is also a nearby city that surrounds the field.

Salto has several accommodations close by the airport. Palmar Hotel Casino is few minutes away from the airport. It is located in the city center features garden, pool and a business center. It is also about 15 minutes drive to the hot springs. Another hotel near the airport is the Salto Hotel & Casino. It is a short walk to the Artigas Main Square. The room is decorated in soft hues and breakfast is served daily.
Another way of visiting Salto is using the nearby Concordia Airport (COC) in Argentina.
