Urbania: Majestic Massive Mountains and Religious History
Urbania, Italy is one of the communities located in the Marche region. The area is sits 25 miles from Pesaro and 50 miles from Ancona. The region is known for its ceramic industry as well as its majolica - a tin-glazed pottery art. The region is also mostly associated with the female version of Santa Claus - Befana, a folk tradition in the region. Originally dedicated as Castel delle Ripe, the area was destroyed in 1277 and was rebuilt in 1284. It became one of the Papal States in 1631. The region took its new name, Urbania in 1636 in honor of Pope Urban VIII.
