Valmeinier: Top Ski Resort Town in France
Valmeinier, France is one of the Auvergne-Rhone-Alpes region’s top communes. It is located at Mont Thabor’s foot, and is best known as a ski resort town. Its very first ski area was established in 1973, and since then it has attracted a steady stream of winter vacationers from all over Europe. Holiday villages have been built all over the resort town, making it a delight to explore throughout the year. The city traces its history in the 12th century, and was named after the anthracite in its mines. The city’s name means “valley of the mines”.
Best Time to Visit
In December, tourists can look forward to the annual FIS International Races, which are usually held at the Front de Neige Valmeinier. The international competition features nightly ski slaloms. The Local Market at the Place du Balcon des Islettes also opens in December to cater to visiting tourists. Wintertime of course is Valmeinier, France’s busiest month, so tourists are advised to book a Valmeinier hotel in advance to take advantage of the best rates.

The Résidence Les Hauts de Valmeinier is conveniently situated right at the foothills of the Valmeinier Ski Resort, and brings travelers close to a collection of restaurants and stores.
