Vnukovo International Airport is one of the four major airports serving Moscow, Russia. Located roughly 28 km southwest of Moscow, this dual-runway airport managed to handle as much as 15.82 million passengers in 2015, and with an indication that the numbers will increase in the years. What’s surprising is that the VKO airport only has one terminal in operation, said terminal being used for both domestic and international flights. It is currently the 3rd busiest airport in the country.

Of all the airports in Russia, VKO-Vnukovo International Airport is the one with the highest altitude, measuring around 669 feet above sea level. This makes it an excellent alternative airport in the event of fog which can decrease visibility to the lower region runways. Terminal A, which is the one currently being used, has a floor space of 250,000sqm and a passenger capacity of 7800 per hour. This is distinct from the VIP Hall which is used by political leaders and other important people going to and leaving Russia – including the Russian President. Cities nearby include the small village of Aleksandrovka and Byakontovo.
