Best Time to Visit
Vannes-Meucon Airport was built before World War II, and Vannes remained an active site throughout the war. It was taken over by the Germans in 1940 and was subsequently used as an airfield for German Luftwaffe. It was attacked repeatedly in 1943 by the U.S. Amy Air Force. By 1944, it was finally liberated by the Allied forces and was cleared of all German aircraft by the U.S. All damage from previous battle was repaired and it was reopened the same year as a U.S. Army combat airfield. By 1945, it was returned to French jurisdiction and became a public civil airport.
