Wonju Airport – WJU Wonju, South Korea
Wonju Airport (WJU) is a joint civilian and military airport located in the city Wonju in South Korea. It is run by both the Korean Airports Corporation and the Republic of Korea Airforce. During the Korean War it was designated as the Hoengsong Air Base and used by the US Air Force. Today, the airport is mainly for military use although there are a few domestic commercial flights too. In 2011, more than 70,000 passengers utilized the airport.

What makes Wonju Airport different is that its passenger terminal is not connected to the runway since it is located .75 miles away, which means that after check-in passengers need to take a 20-minute airport shuttle ride to board their flight. The domestic airport has a one-storey terminal with limited facilities that includeone gate each for arrival and departure. The airport operates a single daily scheduled flight to Jeju via Korean Air. It can accommodate 115,000 aircraft flight operations annually. Only one parking space is capable of handling a Boeing 737-900 although the ramp can hold a B737-class aircraft. The district of Buk and the town of Cheongpyeong are on the fringes of the airport.

Hotels near the airport may be a bit farther but connecting to Wonju Airport is still relatively easy. The Hotel Inter-Burgo Wonju is less than 7.5 miles away while both the Vivaldi Park and the posh Mayfair Pension are distanced at more than 20 miles away.
