Yiyang: An Ancient Agricultural Land
Yiyang, China is a city in the Hunan province of China. It is located on the Zi River and straddles the Lake Dongting. It is an ancient city which existed since its founding in 221 BC. Culturally, the city is known for Huaguxi or flower-drum opera and its spicy food. A visit to Yiyang will reveal a lot of hilly farmlands, with rice as its primary crop. However, tea and bamboo are also grown in Yiyang. Visitors bound for Yiyang will first arrive at the Changsha Huanghua International Airport (CSX), around an hour and 46 minutes from the city.
Best Time to Visit
When visiting Yiyang, it’s best to take note of the weather. Many of the attractions in Yiyang are outdoors so a pleasant weather is important. The best time to visit the city would be from April to May and July to October. It’s also great to visit Yiyang during its celebration of the Dongting Lake Eco-Cultural Tourism Festival. Yiyang, China hotels are likely to be priced higher during the festival and peak tourist seasons.
What to Do & Area Attractions
Go lake hopping when in Yiyang. With the many beautiful and picturesque lakes in the area, it’s hard to visit just one. These lakes include the Maozhu Lake, Suhu Lake, and Zhaba Lake. The Liubu Stream is also a beautiful natural attraction to visit and should not be missed.
Although an old city, there are hotels that can be stayed in while on a visit to Yiyang.
