Founded in the early 1860s, the vibrant town of Mariehamn, Finland grew to be a farming village on a peninsula. It was called after the affluent Russian empress Maria Alexandrovna. Mariehamn’s location has made it a significant harbor town in the country, receiving and shipping goods from other parts of the world. Serving the town is the small airport named after the very town itself, Mariehamn Airport (MHQ).
